Teaching and Learning Transformed- Learning To Overcome Podcast

This podcast series was narrated by Gwen Thompkins and Presented by Imaginable futures and UNICEF. This podcast was very informative about the ways that COVID-19 has affected the learning of children around the world. Gwen Thompkins had interviewed two women Wendy Cobs and Dr. Obiaway.

Both of these ladies stated how teachers in their area are dealing with the pandemic and teaching their children. Wendy Cobs stated that what she is seeing in her area is Collective Leadership. She names teachers, parents and communities with being the collective because all of these three plays a significant role in a child's learning.

Dr. Obianay (sorry if spelling is wrong) talked about how in Nigeria, the teachers had to find the way to deliver online learning.  She mentions how the teachers uploads lessons for each grade level, WhatsApp for Story books &  Virtual Classes. And for the families that does not have the means to do online, copies are made and given out. And they also have small groups of no more than five children and a teacher outside in their community that they live in.

I found that this podcast to be very interesting. For that the same tools that we are using here, they are also using around the world to provide learning to the children and provide support for the families.

What Parents To Teach Us About Their Dual Language Children
The population of multilingual children has increased in US schools, teacher education programs and early childhood curriculums spend little time discussing the role that bilingualism plays in languages , literacy, cognitive, and social emotional development. (Michael-Luna & Heimer 2012)

The new insight that I have found when reading all three of these articles is, the 10 Mini Learning Centers at Home, now during the times of COVID-19 many children are not able to go to school and are doing remote learning. In ncprk we know that children learn best during play. So what better way to help guide the parents in providing the same experience to their children at home. I like the 10 mini learning centers at home, because it won't take up much space, and it will allow the parents to be more intentional with play with their child.

What is COVID-19? And How Does It Relate to Child Development?

This article talks about COVID-19 affects the children and the family. Covid-19 It is important for us to keep our distance from one another (physically)  and also stay connected to the people we care about. Some ways are: video chatting, saying hello to a neighbor that is 6ft or more away.  These connections can make stress feel easier to bear,

Also taking a minute to close your eyes and breathe in and out can help. Because slow breathing tells your body's stress system to ease up. This can help you response better at even the most difficult times.

I found these three articles/video clip very interesting. It really makes the material very easy to understand. I love the way that all three can connect with each other. And in the way the culture has changed since COVID-19, we now more than every have to make those bonds with children through play more now than ever.
