Communicating Among Us

                                                                                                istockphoto.com

Do you find yourself communicating differently with people from different groups and cultures? If yes, in what ways do you communicate differently? I want to say yes to this question, but my answer is sometimes. It all depends on my situation or environment that I am in.  For example when I am in a training with other teachers my communication style is more relaxed, attentive and opened. Due to the fact that I know that we are all there for the same purpose and have something in common education. Education is a topic that has a common goal no matter what angle you look at it. It seems to be harder to really offend anyone's culture or identity. We may not agree on everything but the goal is the same to provide quality care and education.

Where my communication begins to change is when dealing with the different families in my classroom. I find myself speaking differently and watching what I am saying to my white families. I guess it's because how society has conditioned people of color. My minority families no matter the culture, from asian, african, mexican, black, etc. I found that I can speak with them in a more relaxed state. Yes at times I may have to modify, how the message is being delivered due to some language barriers but it gets done.

In the article "Inter-cultural communication: a foundation of communicative action" it mentions how Intentions is the second basis for communication behaviour according to Gudyl intentions were formed. Intentions are instructions that we give ourselfs to communicate with others (Vuckovic, A. (2008).

Non-Verbal Communication

In chapter our text book there is a section that is called "The Nature of Nonverbal Communincation", it talks about how nonverbal communication can be intentional or unintentional. Nonverbal communication encompasses a variety of actions, such as gestures, tone of voice, and eye behavior as well as physcial apperenace(O'Hair, D., Wiemann, M., Mullin, D. I., & Tevern, J. (2018).

The sitcom that I chosed to review is Mr. Bean, I remembered as a child how I just loved to watch this show. It was very intenterating even though Mr. Bean has never said a word.

In this 35 minute sitcom, you will see different senerio's that Mr. Bean been on. He displays many nonverbal cues as well as body language. His body language is very intentional for the situation that he is in. Even the people around him, you can also pick up their feelings, such as frustration, irritation, and even curisoity.
With this video you can watch it with or without sound. You will still get the same cues and the urge to continue to watch to see what happens next. When watching it with sound you just get the reaction from the audience that makes the experience even more enjoyable.

Competent Communication

SnapsComms

Who demonstrates competent communication with a particular context.
I found that working as an educator there are many trainings, guest speakers, classes, and video files that I have watched. I found that with these four different experiences I had found that when the presenter is realatable and can make the information that he/she is speaking about relevant to what is going on in society today, I am able to stay focused and obatin information that can later be used.
When being a teacher/educator we meet different types of people, children and families, and many of them can not be reached the same way. I found at times that I have felt discouraged about the job that I am doing. As times have changed their are many families that feels when it comes to education, they seemed to be very intittled, such in a way that all the pressure of a child succeding is placed on the teacher?educator. When it takes a village to raise a child so should be a constant and effective communication between the families and the teacher/educator.
I found when I start to feel discouraged I tend to look at a few youtube video's of insperation. I love the way Denzel Washington and Angela Bassett with their pressence captivates a room. Not because of who they are but what they say when they walk out into a room.

The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression

One hope that you have when you think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds.

One hope that I have when working with children and families with diverse backgrounds, is that I can build a positive relationship with the child and the family. I am hoping that I can accommodate the similitaries as well as the differences we may have.

One goal you would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice.

A goal that I will like to set for the early childhood field is that their need to be more interactive training that will help the teachers to come up with hands on activities that deals with diversity within the classroom.

To all my classmates thank you for the great conversation and feedback during this class. I have learned so much from each one of you as usual. For the ones that this is our first interaction, thank you for opening up some of your personal life and for the positive feedback. I look forward to enteracting with you in the next class.
